Why do I need a chimney cap?

Chimney caps protect your home by preventing animals or birds from getting into your chimney. Caps also keep the rain out which can do quite a bit of damage to the interior of the chimney and firebox. They are also designed to contain sparks and cinders from igniting your roof or other surroundings.

What about products I have seen on TV that are supposed to clean your chimney?

The products you’ve seen may help with some chimney cleaning and do not appear to harm your system but there is still a disclaimer stated at the end of the advertising that states that the products does NOT replace a chimney inspection or cleaning.

Why does my fireplace smoke?

Many factors may include: Down drafting, inadequate chimney height, incorrect or missing raincap, lack of free area around raincap (i.e. trees too close, roof structure, other vent systems), damper problems, improper installation, etc., etc. It may be one or a combination of any of these factors.

What are some simple things I can do to reduce my energy costs?

Replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. They last longer, use a great deal less energy output and they don’t produce additional heat like incandescent bulbs do. When buying appliances, look for the green Energy Star label. The appliance may be competitively priced when compared to others without the Energy Star label, but your savings over time will be greater because it will run more efficiently and consume less energy. Also consider an attic ventilation system or the use of non-energy consuming lighting products (see our Energy Saving Products page). Is there enough wind on my property to make wind power feasible?

We can do a wind analysis on your property by setting up a anemometer combined with research from wind charts available from the government and other agencies.

How affordable are solar and wind power systems?

Each system is built according to your needs and your budget. You can start small and add components to your system. By simply installing a system that would heat your water with solar power would reduce your energy costs and consumption. There’s always more to be considered. Call us for more details.
